Marisa’s practice involves defense of complex litigation on behalf of developers and general contractors, including the defense of construction defect claims brought by homeowners’ associations, individual homeowners of single family homes and commercial sites. On many occasions, Marisa defends her clients against claims involving products liability, mold, toxic torts and environmental issues, and resulting personal injury claims.

Marisa’s litigation practice also involves litigation in both state and Federal courts regarding community covenants and controls; contract and indemnification claims; fraud and misrepresentation claims and business torts; insurance coverage litigation; premises liability; fire cause and origin investigations; and real estate matters.

Over the last few years, Marisa developed a passion for helping individuals and families secure their financial future through informed estate planning, including a variety of estate planning services such as wills, trusts, living trusts and medical powers of attorney, guardianship documents for minors and disabled persons, conservatorship documents and a variety of other planning services geared towards protecting your family’s financial future.

In March 2017, Marisa presented oral argument before the Colorado Supreme Court in the Vallagio at Inverness v. Metropolitan Homes case. On June 5, 2017, the Court issued its final opinion in favor of Marisa’s client, Metropolitan. This very important decision upheld a developer/builder’s right to arbitrate claims for construction defects and consumer protection act violations in multi-family for-sale housing.

Ms. Ala is regularly asked to speak at local and regional conferences in both Colorado and California on topics involving insurance coverage, wrap policies, indemnification obligations and other relevant industry topics.

Marisa Ala and her husband John are the parents of two children, Ariel (11) and Jeffrey (8). In February 2013, the Ala’s brought Ariel home through Denver County’s foster care system, and adopted her on July 12, 2013. Marisa is passionate about helping other parents find the right resources and connections to ease the significant burden of raising a traumatized child, and on occasion provides legal services to facilitate the foster care and adoption process.
